International Partnerships & Collaborations

Hochschule Anhalt (Bernburg, Germany)

Study programme Business Management & Agribusiness (BA) started in September of 2011 with a collaborative project with Hochschule Anhalt.

This collaboration means BA students work together on a project with German students. The project involves teams of four people performing risk analysis of a possible corporate takeover in a specific country (for example a dairy farm in Poland or a rose grower in Ethiopia). Market risks and opportunities, and economic, legal and political factors need to be researched. The kick-off took place at HAS Den Bosch; teams were formed with both German and Dutch students, and after instructions they set to work.

During the project, students keep in touch by means of a digital platform. The project, which is integrated in the “In Business” module, will be concluded in October during a return visit by our HAS students to the Hochschule Anhalt in Germany. There, students of both schools will jointly present their projects.

Katholieke Hogeschool Zuid West Vlaanderen (Roesselare, Belgium)
Since 2009, study programme Food Technology has successfully worked together with Katholieke Hogeschool Zuid West Vlaanderen. During one week and across two locations (Belgium and the Netherlands), the exchange students of the Product Development module are offered an interesting programme in the fields of Bakery, Meat and Process Technology. The main purpose is knowledge and cultural exchange. The programme is optional, but partaking students will be awarded credits.

HAMK University of Applied Sciences (Finland)
Study programmes Garden & Landscape Management (TLM) and Landscape Design (LD) offer second and third year students the possibility to travel to HAMK University of Applied Sciences for a two week course Vectorworks (3D drawing). If they take part, their international traineeship will be reduced by two weeks. Later in the year, Finnish students will come to the Netherlands for a two week course Creativity in the Green Space.

Ohio State University (United States)
During the Horticultural Trade Show in Ohio in July 2011, HAS has made valuable contacts at Ohio State University (OSU), one of the largest agricultural universities in the USA. A prospective collaboration with HAS was received enthusiastically and they plan to visit us in the summer of 2012 to concretize options of further collaboration. Currently our students already work in traineeships in the USA, through Ohio State University (where they help our students with visa and introduction programmes).

University of the Fraser Valley (Canada)
The visit of HAS to Canadian Fraser Valley University in May 2011 brought many collaboration prospects. During the visit a Memorandum of Agreement was closed between HAS and UFV, in which both parties declared their intention to invest time in further acquaintance to extend collaboration.  Meanwhile contact has been made between people involved in international relations from HAS and UFV. As of year 2011-2012, a student exchange programme has been made possible (with a maximum of 2 students per year). This especially offers Business Management & Agribusiness students lots of interesting possibilities. But also Horticulture & Agriculture, Garden& Landscape Management, and Animal Husbandry & Animal Care students who have an interest in business administration are welcome in Canada. As part of a study visit to the Netherlands in the spring of 2012, organized by UFV for its students, a return visit to HAS Den Bosch will be included in the itinerary.

East Java Provincial Government (Indonesia)
In September 2011, at the request of East Java Provincial Government, HAS Den Bosch, in collaboration with HAS Knowledge Transfer, organized for a second time a tailor made training programme for Indonesian agricultural entrepreneurs and officials. The four week training course primarily focused on “Export Management and Global Trade in Horticulture”. The substantive content was provided by HAS Den Bosch lecturers, reinforced by external guest speakers.

In addition to class lectures, talks, several study visits and field trips, and even brief business traineeships, students worked in teams on relevant and concrete business plans for their own sector, which they then presented to an expert panel.

After a successful and very well-received first training event in 2010, the 2011 training offered an even stronger and more varied programme.
